About halfway between our home in Los Angeles and my parent’s home in the desert is the city of Redlands. I’ve been thinking of stopping there on one of our trips down to see them.
The town has a number of parks that I think the girls will enjoy. Sylvan park, adjacent to the University of Redlands, has a beautiful rose garden. Ford park has a playground, picnic area, and duck pond I know the girls would go crazy over. I imagine them running around, feeding the ducks their own picnic lunches. Caroline park is planted with native plants, like we’d like to do in our backyard. It also has a water conservation garden that I would love to see for my continued education in living green.
It also has a number of historic landmarks I’d like to see. The Kimberly Crest House and Gardens is a lavish Victorian style house that is now a museum. It looks like a castle and I know the girls would love to see the inside of a real castle. There is also the Morey Mansion that has appeared in numerous commercials. The San Bernadino County Museum has the exploration station with live animals for the kids to see.
Redlands is also home to a top Southern Califonia university. The campus of this Inland Empire college is supposed to be beautiful to walk around. Maybe one of the girls will decide to pursue a business degree at their California business school. Close enough to come home regularly, but not so close that they’ll bring their laundry every week.
Every Thursday night, Redlands has Market night, with food and entertainment. I would love to walk around with the girls and take in all the sights and smells of the market.
With everything there is to do and see in Redlands, we may have to take a couple trips. I’m sure Grandma and Grandpa wouldn’t mind a few more visits.
