Samantha was painting the other day. As usual, she painted her hands to make handprints and left paint on the kitchen table. When she was done, we washed her hands. She then grabbed a paper towel, wetted it, and said she was going to go clean up.
My heart soared. Could it be, my almost 4 year old was going to help me clean up the mess she had made? I marveled at my amazing child. I marveled at my amazing parenting, clearly I was teaching her well.
She then proceeded to walk right by the table and leave the kitchen with her wet paper towel.
“Where are you going?” I asked.
“To clean the ottoman,” came her reply.
It’s faux leather and she likes to wipe it down. Usually she leaves enough water that I have to clean that up too. At least I can marvel at her vocabulary. Ottoman is a pretty big word for a 4 year old.
