We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific again today. As usual, we forgot our camera (i.e. Sean forgot his brand-new-really-nice-at-least-for-us-shwanky camera), so sorry, no pictures.
Also as usual, the girls had a blast looking at all the fish. There is a huge tank in the main lobby and we got to see a SCUBA diver in feeding the big fish. Sammy’s really gotten into the touch tanks, especially the anemones and starfish. Ella’s still a little shy about touching things, but she did hold the nectar cup to feed Lorikeets. Penny was wide-eyed and bouncing around all day.
There was a sea lion that was playing with us. He came up to the glass and pressed his belly right up to it. It looked like he wanted to have it rubbed, so we rubbed the glass. Then he’d push his little face right next to us and when we “pet” him, he opened his mouth and blew bubbles.
And, as usual, I was impressed with their greeness and commitment to educating people on living more greenly. They use native plants that are drought tolerant in the landscaping. There are multiple signs about it and they identify all the plants they use. They compost food waste and use it to nourish the plants. They use compostable paper products in the cafeteria. They even have some healthy options in the cafeteria, not just hot dogs and french fries. I had a lovely grilled veggie sandwich with a green salad (ok, it was romaine, 3 cherry tomatoes, and a handful of alfalfa sprouts, but still, not too bad).
Every time I go, I think we should go more often. Maybe next time we’ll remember the camera.
