There’s a company, PaperSalt, that makes great books to help parents teach their children life lessons and simple things all kids should know. They have things like table manners, things teens should know before they leave the house, and being a girl. As a parent, I know there are things I want my kids to learn and instill in them, but it can be hard to figure out a way to make sure my message is getting through.
I had a chance to check out two PaperSalt books, “Dinner Table Manners” and “Being A Girl”, and I am in love with these books!
Being a girl is just chock full of things I want my girls to know. Really know in their hearts. Like “You are beautiful. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” I think sometimes reading it in a book makes it more true than just hearing it from mom. Also, it’s something I need to remember for myself.
The Dinner Table Manners book is FANTASTIC! Simple, cute, easy to absorb lessons on how to behave at a meal. We are really trying to focus on this one. Turns out, food throwing is strictly a no-no.
I have to say, I’m learning a few things, and remembering a few, too. The girls keep reminding me to keep my elbows off the table. (Forearms are okay.) How great is it to send your kids out into the world knowing they can handle themselves in social situations? I know I would have felt much more comfortable as a child if I had known where to put my silverware after eating, on the table? on the plate? just keep holding it?
They also have great coupon books with things like date night with mom, dinner at your favorite restaurant, and staying up an extra hour at bedtime. My girls are really excited for that one.
I love that the rewards aren’t toys or things, but more family time activities. My girls have enough stuff, time is really what they need. There are also blank coupons for parent’s choice rewards.
The books are all printed on heavy weight uncoated cover stock. These are heavy duty books meant to be written in, added to, and to be around for a long time.
When I got the books, the girls and I read through them. Now, every night after story time, we read one or two lessons from each book. That way we have a goal of something to practice the next day. I have a few more I want to get, like “How to Ditch Your Parents” and “Table and Kitchen Manners”.
