I try to live as green as I can. It’s not always easy, and there are things I just can’t seem to get rid of, no matter how hard I try. Paper towels fall into that category. Intellectually, I know they are not good for the environment. They waste trees, they waste energy being produced, and they fill up landfills. Plus, one time use wastes my money.
But sometimes a paper towel just works the best. A cereal or milk spill? I reach for paper towels, they just absorb better than my cloth towels. Wiping down the counter? I’ve tried to use cloth rags, but I just like the way paper towels grab things a little better.
Well, I’ve now found a replacement. Paperless Kitchen is a new site devoted to getting our kitchens eco-friendly and paperless. They have natural sponges , cleaning cloths, and my new favorite, skoy cloths.
What’s so great about skoy cloths? They’re super absorbant, I found even more than a paper towel. They are made from cellulose pulp and cotton, not wood pulp that contributes to deforestation. They’re reusable and washable. You can put them in the dishwasher, washing machine, or microwave for 1-2 minutes (make sure they’re wet first). They’re also biodegradable and compostable, breaking down in about five weeks.
I’ve been using them for wiping down my kitchen counters, cleaning up spills, washing and drying dishes, and general cleaning. They don’t leave lint all over, they don’t tear, and they just keep absorbing. (Seriously, they’re really absorbant.)
Even better, they’re wallet friendly. One skoy cloth can replace up to 15 rolls of paper towels! Yep, 15 rolls!
For you doubters, I took some on our trip to Mammoth last weekend for my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, three aunts, and a cousin to try out. They all loved them! Now, my sister-in-law is definitely green, but my mother-in-law? She’s almost anti-green. She probably uses 2 paper towel rolls a week, and she was washing dishes, wiping counters, and cleaning up spills with the skoy cloths. In fact, I gave her 2 of mine because she was so excited about them (and she’s my mother-in-law, it’s good to be nice to your mother-in-law).
Now I know you want your own. You can head over to Paperless Kitchen and get some of your own, or you can WIN some!
The giveaway is for 10 skoy cloths (that’s like 150 paper towel rolls!) Open to U.S. residents only. Simply use the Rafflecopter entry form below.
