Ella and the chickens

Ella throws another tantrum. Over what I can’t remember, her water wasn’t cold enough, her eggs not hot enough, a sister moved her blanket, her drawing wasn’t perfect. It goes on and on. My head pounds, I’m at my wit’s end.
Time outs don’t work. She runs out of her room, I carry her, kicking and screaming, back in. Out she comes, in we go, and the only thing gained are my black and blue shins.
Yelling doesn’t work. Her screams are louder than mine. Walking away doesn’t work, she follows, making sure I know she’ angry with the world.
Finally, I say,
“Go outside! I can’t take it any more. Go visit the chickens until you calm down.”
And she stops screaming, nods, and walks to the gate so I can let her in the area of our yard with the chickens. She walks to the short wall surrounding the garden, curls her knees to her chest and wraps her arms around her legs, sulking, but not screaming.
Soon she is chasing, Nina, our yellow chicken. She is the only child who can catch any of the chickens simply because she will not give up, tenacious in all that she does.
“Mom,” she calls.
I turn and see her holding Nina, a smile of pride across her face. Nina squirms and Ella lets go. Instead of a tantrum, she laughs, and begins chasing again. Now, when she’s upset, she knows to go to the chickens
The chickens were meant to be fun and provide eggs, but they have also provided me with a much calmer house.

It’s good for both of you that Ella found a way to work out her unhappiness. If it works hey go with it!!!! As she finds ways to deal with unhappiness she should have less tantrums too. I’m sure you already know that but I just thought I would give you some reassurance.
