Growing up, we probably all heard if we weren’t good this time of the year, we’d be put on the naughty list and Santa wouldn’t come. I know my mom pulled out the “Santa’s watching” early in December if not in November. I took the threat seriously and tried to be the best I could possibly be. Am I being a Scrooge?
In my efforts to get organized around here, I came to the conclusion that I have too much stuff. I got rid of a lot of things I didn’t need, including my everyday dishes and a whole lot of toys and clothes. So, in an effort to keep things de-junked, I’m requesting no one buys me gifts this year. Before Christmas when I was eight or nine, my mother and my aunt took my sister and I to the home of someone that needed groceries for the holidays. They had gotten her name from our church. Before we went my mother talked to us about what to expect. She told us we were going to the home of a single mother with a little girl about our age. We were going to bring some food so they could have a nice Christmas dinner and some toys for the little girl so she would have some gifts for Christmas. [...]
