  Sammy and Ella have been fighting. A lot. Ella is Ella and generally not super easy to get along with. She angers quickly and resorts to yelling, hitting, and other truly inappropriate methods to get her point across. Until recently, Sammy has dealt with it by ignoring her, or if she can’t, crying to me or Sean that Ella’s done whatever it is. Until recently. Ella throws another tantrum. Over what I can’t remember, her water wasn’t cold enough, her eggs not hot enough, a sister moved her blanket, her drawing wasn’t perfect. It goes on and on. My head pounds, I’m at my wit’s end. Time outs don’t work. She runs out of her room, I carry her, kicking and screaming, back in. Out she comes, in we go, and the only thing gained are my black and blue shins. Yelling doesn’t work. Her screams are louder than mine. Ella @ School

When I picked the girls up last Thursday, Sammy’s teacher practically ran me down.  She is generally excitable, but today  her arms were waving even more emphatically than usual when she spoke. “Ella had a little melt down today!” She went on to explain that when asked to wash her hands, Ella had said no. She was told she should, but no one could make her.  So she didn’t and stood with her arms crossed in the bathroom doorway.  When told that although she did not have to wash her hands, she did have to move out of the doorway.
